    In the picture, the bed appears to have an opening that the dog can enter - I assumed there was wire (or something) that held the "top" up to keep the "cave" opening exposed. In reality, the "top" of the bed does not stand up, it lays flat and the bed looks like any other bed. Unless I physically lift the top to reveal the cave inside, my pet(s) sleep on the flat top, like they would any regular bed. my pets would have to lift the top with their nose/ paw to use it by themselves as shown in the picture. There is not a fixed opening in to which they can crawl.

    our two older dogs love this bed so much, that they no longer want in our bed. easy to clean. great product
