How Much Wire Do You Need?

I found this site Radio Fence .com about 3 years ago as I searched for fencing options for my dog. Here I found good value, good quality products and wonderful customer service. Each time I have called I have received excellent service; my orders have always been filled promptly. Aside from having the best price what sold me on the Petsafe fence containment system offered by this company was the option of using the spikes and laying the fencing above ground, saving us a lot of time & hard work. We have 5 acres and have now fenced 4 acres. At first to try this fencing we only fenced 2.5 acres. A neighbor cat learned where my dog could go & would walk just outside teasing her. Training my dog took very little time and even with the cat teasing her she would not cross the line. She chases rabbits & squirrels on our place but will not go past the fencing. On seeing how well this fencing system worked we ordered more wire & fenced in the rest of our yard so our dog has almost full access. We took in a rescue dog, a husky , the fence contained him for 7 months before he got out . We increased the setting but didn't follow the instructions to shave his neck, if we had I feel on the highest setting we may have kept him in the yard. Due to other issues we had to rehome him. We recently took in another rescued dog , a border collie / aussie mix , again it took very little training to train her to this fence . From the first day my only suggestion to Pet safe was to make a training collar that is compatible with this fence. I have never had a problem with this fence or the collars. I do prefer the new smaller collars with the 5 levels of correction. My older dog wears the one with only 1 level of correction after using this system for 3 years. I had 2 of the older style collars and used them for the new dogs. One the collar fell off & was run over by the riding lawn mower. The 2nd one has broken leaving only the prongs on the collar, which is why I have just ordered the new deluxe small receiver with 5 levels of correction. I noticed one person mentioned the collars wear out I have not experienced that but I have changed collars. My experience is these receivers can be put on most collars so can change collar if a person doesn't like the one that comes with the receiver. All my dogs , 3 so far have enjoyed the freedom and safety they get with this fencing system & I also enjoy that my view is not blocked while keeping them safe and at home. Thank you for a site / company that offers top quality products and great customer service! I refer everyone to your site & to this pet safe product.A happy pet owner with 2 happy dogs Flicka & Missy (happy fur babies)ages 4 & 1

We were quite surprised at how well the invisible fence works. We added more wire and expanded their area after we found that it really works. The training process was not difficult. We are thrilled, and I'm sure our neighbors are, too.

I have 3 small ( very active) Dacshunds that use to have to be confined to a small area. We live out in the country and were afraid a predatore would get them.
I then heard about the petsafe radio fence. Best investment I ever made. I now have 3 very happy little dogs. We have about 2 acres of yard. They have about 3/4 of the yard to run around and have fun in.
I installed it in an afternoon. It only took 2 times for them to know what was going on before they would get a shock. They do not attempt to go through, even when other dogs are around.

We installed this in half of our yard (wanted to keep the other half ""clean"" for kids baseball). The installation was straightforward but a little time consuming - the main problem is with tree roots. I dug a thin trench by hand, but if you have lots of tree roots this is a pain. I would use a saw to cut through the roots.
The training DVD is very helpful. We followed this carefully.
We thought he would go through the fence when he saw a rabbit or squirrel, but he did not and stayed within the boundaries - much to our surprise. Our dog is a 15 pound male cockapoo, one year old.
It's great to just open the door and let him out!

Even with two very high energy, young, large dogs the system works perfectly. It was easy to intall and the dogs trained to it in about 20 min. The on line (you tube) training video was very helpful in teaching me (owner) how to effectively train the dogs to the fence. To my surprise it was 100% effective (and pain free) within the first day! We are now going to buy one for the cottage and "babysitter's". It's such a peace of mind!

We have 3 small dogs that love to run and play outside. We put the underground fence around about 2/3 of our 2 acre property. The dogs immediately knew where they had to stop. We have 3 collars but don't always put them all on. We had one dog that ran through the fence once chasing a rabbit. We increased the distance from the wire they get the signal and it never happened again. We are very happy we made the investment.

We have used this product for 7 years with good success. Replaced twice as thunder storms do affect it.

We bought the 5 level fence shortly after getting our puppy (jack russell mix, 35 lbs), he was about 3.5 months old (5 mths ago). After using the training method walking around the perimeter 2 times and w/a couple of quick shocks, our pup was trained. We did however leave the flags up for a while just to ensure he was fully aware of his ""space"". Although we do keep his collar on him all the time, it isn't necessary. Additionally, our puppy did not treat us or react differently following the training. * We did not bury the line, he opted to buy the stakes and place them around the yard perimeter and allow the grass to grow around the wire due to the size of our yard. However, in the areas around the landscaping we did bury the line. The frequency strength works the same under 4 inches of stone, fyi.
I absolutely recommend this fencing system!
