This is a 1,000 foot roll of Heavy Duty - Solid Core Pet Fence Wire and it's available in Four Thicknesses: 20 Gauge, 18 Gauge, 16 Gauge and 14 Gauge. No matter the terrain you are enclosing, we have the heavy duty wire you will need. These 1,000 foot rolls are enough wire to enclose up to 1 to acre. We recommend Heavy Duty Pet Fence wire in any areas where the wire may experience wear and tear such as rocky conditions or cold weather climates.
Electric dog fences usually come with 20-gauge (thinnest), 18-gauge, 16-gauge, or 14-gauge (thickest) wire. The 20-gauge wire with a vinyl coating is what you will find in most pre-packaged do-it-yourself fencing kits. Most professionally installed systems use the more substantial 14, 16 or 18 gauge wire. Whether you’re replacing a section of your existing fence or wiring your yard from scratch, you can easily find a relatively inexpensive and compatible wire for your project. Regardless of gauge, you should choose only a solid insulated wire rated for burial preferably polyethylene or plastic coated works best. All of our wire use these coatings for maximum performance.
This wire is compatible with all PetSafe®, SportDOG®, Innotek®, Invisible Fence® Brand, Dog Watch® PetStop®, Contain Your pet®, Dog Guard®, Perimeter® Brand, Dogtek®, Dogtra®, Guardian®, Havahart® and all other brands of in-ground electric dog fence systems.
Factory Grade Wire
This is the wire included in all self-install kits. Regardless of gauge, this wire is of medium quality, lighter weight and keeps shipping and initial costs down. This wire will work but does not hold up to the elements as well as a professional grade wire. The vinyl wire coating is prone to cracks and over time exposes the copper leaving the wire susceptible to damage. This can cause issues that impact the functionality of your dog fence system. Since finding, digging up, and repairing wire breaks can be a tedious job at best, many people prefer to upgrade to a pro-grade wire from the start.
Heavy Duty Grade Wire
The initial cost of heavy duty grade wire is a bit more than manufacturer grade wire. However, there are many benefits to choosing heavy duty wire for your dog fence. Heavy Duty grade dog fence wire holds up better to freezing conditions, sunlight exposure, contraction and expansion of the ground, water exposure and general wear and tear. The long term savings in time and replacement if you are planning on staying in your home for at least a year or more, makes the heavier duty wire a much better investment.

This wire is much more robust than the wire that was included with the boundary unit. The insulation is very thick and should hold up well when direct buried.

At our last home we wanted our dog to be able to enjoy the creek in our backyard. Since the depth changed drastically depending on the season I called the company for advice. They were so helpful & gave good suggestions for protecting the wire from possible breaks. We installed the wire with staples during the lowest water season & used they're suggestions. It worked great!

I have been buying dog containment products from Radio Fence for 10 years. I have never been disappointed. Fast shipping and the prices are lower than any competitor. With proper installation and dog training, my petsafe underground fence has been virtually flawless. I would never consider owning dogs without this system.

I had to lay out 3,000 ft of wire, having a 1,000ft roll really made it easier. Plus I love that the wire is now solid, and with a heavier insulation and gauge wire, hopefully the critters that love to chew will take a little longer, so I don't have to repair as often

I had a Radio Fence system years ago, this wire is much better than the older wire, better insulation, I love the fact that it is not stranded, but solid, I have 15 acres to fence and the 1000 ft roll is so much better than having to splice every 500 ft. It shipped very quickly.

I think that this is a goo product and is sent to the customer quickly. It is easy to use and the spool makes it easy to layout. Only wish there was a slightly heavier gauge wire that could hold up for longer and under more pressure as I do a lot of work in my yard and have clipped it a time or two.

I wonder why Radio Fence does not offer a 18 or 16 gage wire for areas that we know are going to be trouble spots. The neighbor had a professional competitor company install theirs and the wire was a heavier gage.

First, want to say that the prices and service from Radio Fence are outstanding! Ordered the black heavy-duty wire because I did not want to repeat the process of running it through the brush and vines. Was concerned that it was thin, only 20 ga, but strung 1200 ft and it seems nice and sturdy,
