Q: if you wrap 2 pieces together will it kill the signal in that area so I can make a complete loop without spliting my front yard to make my 1000 ft loop?

Asked by: dave - 5/23/2017
A: Hi Dave,

Yes, if you twist the wire it will cancel the signal. As for the layout it would be best to look at the manual and the sample lay outs to see what will work best for your yard.

Q: Do you have any type of spec sheet on your 14ga wire. Believe it or not, I need it to give to our inspector? We have to prove that the 14ga AWG wire we purchased from you is rated for direct burial. Thank you

Asked by: Gary Phillips - 6/6/2017
A: Hi Gary,

Unfortunately, we do not have a spec sheet. While our wire is rated for direct burial, the intended use is for in-ground pet fences. In-ground pet fence transmit a radio signal rather than any kind of electric current which it sounds like you need for your application. While our wire could be used for these applications, we did not have a spec sheet prepared because we did not anticipate the wire to be used in any application other than in-ground dog fencing.

Q: what is the polymer insulation? I will be buried in a very wet environment in places. The wire I have in place has a pvc insulation (I believe) and it seems to not hold up the greatest, diminishing signal the farther away from the transmitter. It has been in for perhaps 5-6 years.

Q: One customer stated that the 14-gauge wire is copper coated steel, but from your description, it is suppose to be solid copper. Is your 14-gauge wire solid copper or if it only coated in copper? Thanks.

Asked by: Meg - 10/8/2017
A: Hi Meg,

Our 18 and 14 gauge wire is a steel core clad in copper, This type of wire is much stronger than a 100% copper core wire yet it performs just as well. Our 20 and 16 gauge wire is 100% copper only because they are not available in copper clad steel. The other benefit is that a copper clad wire uses less of a semi-precious metal, copper, that is simply going to be buried in the ground for a pet fence. By using less copper, we are able to help conserve this metal and provide our wire at a lower cost to our customers.

Q: Hey, I've had your dog fence system for approx. 20 years. I recently bought a new transmitter and new dog collar but no wire. Now I want to upgrade to the 14g heavy duty wire but I have a few questions. (1) When I disconnect the old wire from the transmitter the line will be dead so can I run the new heavy duty wire where the dead line is without interference? Some of the old wire is underground and some is just on top of the ground. I have approx. 5 acres inclosed with my system so it would be impossible to remove all the old wire. I've read about the double line system where you say the wire should be at least 5' apart but my plan would be different from that. (2) Can I connect the new heavy duty 14g wire to the smaller old line if I determine the the old line is still good in places and the containment still work? I know it would be best to use all new wire but in some places I may not need to. Please reply asap because I'm waiting on your answers before I order the new wire.

Asked by: Ronald - 3/12/2020
A: Hi Ronald,

The inactive wire should cause any transmission issues.

In regards to combining the wire with the old wire, we would recommend against that. It is highly recommended that you keep the gauge of the wire consistent throughout the loop.

Best Regards,
RadioFence

Q: I will be ordering 14 gauge wire for my proposed in ground electric fence. I live in the Minnesota wilderness near the Canadian border. The land is very rugged and rocky so in many places I will have to lay the wire exposed to the elements. I plan to lay the wire on the lake bottom so my dogs will have access to the lake. My question is how to run the wire across the gravel driveway. since there are many sharp rocks in and under the driveway, I am concerned about damage to the wire. If I run the wire through PVC pipe would the collars be able to detect the radio signal?
